Intra-district Transfer Procedure
The intra-district transfer process is for already-enrolled MPS students looking to transfer to another MPS school.
MPS seeks to give schools and families every opportunity to identify student-centered solutions for ensuring student success before considering changing schools.
For transfer requests involving medical and/or safety concerns, Student Enrollment will follow the procedure below. This does not apply to situations where a change of address results in a student being out of area for their currently enrolled school.
- The parent/guardian completes and submits a School Concern Report Form outlining their reasons for requesting a transfer.
- Enrollment staff will forward the form to the current school's administration and other relevant district staff, such as an Associate Superintendent, the Office of the Ombudsman, or Safety and Security.
- School administrators will contact the student's parent/guardian in hopes of learning more about the concerns and addressing any issues.
- In order to minimize changes and disruption for students, it is always hoped that a transfer can be prevented.
- If it is determined that no other solution is possible and MPS has available openings at a school in the student's transportation area, Enrollment staff will work to complete a transfer.
- The Concern Report Form is available by emailing SPS.Department@mpls.k12.mn.us or visiting the Enrollment Office at 1250 W. Broadway.
